PREPARING
FOR A VASECTOMY
Prior to the procedure, an office visit should be scheduled by the patient.
The visit will include an explanation of the procedure with its attendant
risks and benefits, a discussion of alternate methods of birth control, a
physical examination and patient education literature.
There will be an office visit charge, vasectomy procedure charge, and a
facility fee charge. The facility charge is to be paid to the facility used at
the time of service. If your insurance pays for vasectomies, we will file an
insurance claim to your insurance company. If you are a member of a
health maintenance organization (HMO), preferred provider organization
(PPO), or an independent practice association (IPA) which provides
coverage for vasectomy services, adjustments in the billing method can
be made provided that proper referral paperwork is provided at the time of
the initial visit. Any questions call our surgery coordinator.
On the day of the procedure we request that you take a routine shower.
No blood work or x-rays are required as long as you have no history of
abnormality with clotting of your blood. You may eat regular meals on the
day of the procedure. It is recommended that you bring someone along
who will be able to drive you home after the vasectomy.
