INSTRUCTION ON INFANT NEWBORN CIRCUMCISION

At your request and with your consent, your son has been circumcised
(removal of the foreskin around the head of the penis). A sterile Vaseline
dressing has been placed around the incision site. This dressing may
come off sometime during the day of the circumcision. If it has not come off
by then, please remove it the day after circumcision - if necessary, soaking
in a bath.

If at any time active bleeding occurs, use a fresh Kleenex to place gentle
compression about the penis to stop the bleeding. If this is not effective, if
the bleeding recurs frequently, or if bleeding is excessive, contact the
doctor at once.

For the next week during diaper changes, please see that the penis is
clean. You may apply Neosporin ointment to the penis during diaper
changes. There will be a white film which will form at the circumcision site.
This is expected and represents part of the normal healing process. If the
penis itself turns red or markedly swollen, please contact the doctor.

You will be asked to return, with your son, to the pediatrician for routine
post-circumcision visit, during which the penis will be re-inspected, and
routine questions can be answered.
